Final Year of Ohio Property Tax Phase-Out; Review Asset Classifications Soon
2008 marks the final year of the phase-out of Ohio's personal property tax. In 2005, legislation was passed that included several significant changes to Ohio's tax code, including the four year phase-out of Ohio's tangible personal property tax of general businesses and railroads. This policy change affects most businesses in the state with tangible personal property, including furniture and fixtures, manufacturing machinery & equipment and inventory. This phase-out is now in its fourth and final year. The phase-out in the telecom industry will extend two additional years.

Since 2008 is the final year of the phase-out, it marks a good time for taxpayers to closely review the classification of their tangible assets to verify "real vs. personal" classifications as assessors' sole focus in the future will be on real estate tax assessment. With roots in machinery valuations, AccuVal's tax experts are uniquely skilled in asset identification and Ohio property tax law and are an excellent partner for any firm looking to conduct a comprehensive review of asset classifications.

You might be paying too much in property taxes if ...
